Designing Flow Reducers

Why is it Needed
Flow reducers are a way of providing equality across homes in the system. Homes that are located at a lower elevation will probably have better pressure than those located higher. Flow reducers help provide back pressure so that those located higher still have adequate pressure. NeatWork software will calculate which homes need flow reducers.

Flow reducers are plastic discs with a small hole that is placed before each tap stand inside of the PVC tube. The disc is the same diameter as the tube (usually 1/2”) and should be sandwiched/glued between the tube and a bell connection.

Design
1_htm_6641f93bThe size of the flow reducer is determined through NeatWork software. The disc will be installed near each tap, so will usually be a 1/2” disc with a varying diameter hole in the center. The donut sits inside the tube to restrict flow.
