Thermoforming Overview

1_htm_m1a180586
  1. Keep a can of cooking oil that will be used exclusively for thermoforming. Once the oil has been used for thermoforming, it should NOT be used cooking as it contains toxins from the PVC. An empty tin can works well.
  2. Oil should be heated to about 300 ºF. If you do not have a cooking thermometer, this is the point where the PVC becomes soft when dipped in the oil for about 3-5 seconds.
Note: When dipping PVC into oil, make sure the tube is dry and free of debris. Careful for any backsplash or popping of oil. Oil can sometimes pop up the center of the tube so make sure you only hold the sides of the tube.
  1. When the oil has reached temperature, remove from heat so that the oil does not burn.
