Laying Rebar

1_htm_m182a03a8_thumb1
  1. The important part of laying rebar is that the rebar has concrete both below and above the rebar frame. For most concrete pads, you want the rebar to be between the bottom 1/3 to ½ of the pad.
  2. One way to elevate the rebar is to place the entire rebar cage on pebbles (a pebble at each connection point. For example, 12 in the picture shown to the left).
  3. Another way of elevating the rebar is to pour a small layer of the pad, place the rebar on the poured concrete and then pour the rest of the pad. When using this method, pour the entire pad at the same time to avoid creating a seam in the middle of the concrete.
